Milton

Milton calls itself “Delaware’s Smallest Wonder” and is a classic example of life in a small historic town. There is an extensive Victorian home district, shops and dining in relatively rural area. Milton´s history is written in its streets, architecture, the relationship to the Broadkill River, industrial heritage, and image and reputation throughout Delaware and beyond. Beginning in 1675, English planters began settling in the area, following earlier Dutch settlement in Lewes. The beginnings of the Town itself reached back to the early 18th century lumbering, mill and shipbuilding activities at the head of the Broadkill River.

Milton is a friendly town that is attractive to families, senior citizens, children and visitors. Milton residents enjoy fishing or canoeing and hunting for antiques or wild game. A popular downtown destination and major employer, Dogfish Head Brewery offers tastings and tours. Just minutes to the beaches, Milton can be an ideal location for those looking for a quieter area that is close to all the fun at the beaches.

Many from nearby metropolitan areas call Milton their second home near the sea shore, where property values are increasing but are still affordable. The downtown area includes many Victorian and restored older homes. It’s a much more rural setting than the beach resort towns. New home communities are growing rapidly outside of town limits, some that are closer to Lewes.
