Delaware’s largest resort area traces its origins back to 1873, when the grounds of the Rehoboth Beach Methodists Church Camp was established. Today, Rehoboth Beach calls itself “The Nation’s Summer Capital” because of the number Mid-Atlantic tourists that vacation here. The year-round population of less than 2,000 can swell to 100,000 in summer. It has also become popular as a retirement destination because of its small town character, low taxes, and fabulous beaches.
Rehoboth Beach provides a relaxing alternative to nearby and much larger Ocean City, Maryland. Reader’s Digest named the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk as “Best of America”. Additionally, AARP has named Rehoboth Beach as one of five dream towns as “Best Places to Retire”. Fishing, swimming, volleyball, beachcombing and strolling the mile-long boardwalk are just a few of the toursist activities on the beach. Rehoboth Beach is consistantly rated a five-star beach for water quality and Delaware ranks 1st out of 30 states overall. There is also plenty of room on the beach for catching the rays, building sand castles and surfing the waves. Most imortantly, access to the beach is free of charge.

Off of the beaches, Rehoboth Avenue offers tax free upscale shopping and many gourmet & casual restaurants. This is a bustling community with a small town atmosphere with bandstand musical entertainment, holiday parades and events. Year round Rehoboth Beach events, include the Sea Witch Halloween Festival & the Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival in October and a ocean front Fourth of July celebration complete with fireworks. There are three locations of Tanger outlets that are open all year for endless shopping on rainy or colder days.
Real estate options vary throughout Rehoboth Beach. In general, the closer you are to the water and the beach the higher the priced the homes will be. Many values can be found in condos, townhouses or single family homes just a few minutes outside of downtown. More affordable waterfront locations can be found on the Rehoboth Bay which forms Rehoboth’s border to the west.
